Troubleshooting

The phone app controls your PC through the AX Receiver running on it, over your own Wi-Fi. Almost every problem is one of the three things that needs: the receiver running, both devices on the same network, and nothing in between blocking them.

New to AX? Install the receiver on your PC from the download page, open it, then open the app on your phone.

My PC does not appear in the app

Check the AX Receiver is running on the PC — look for its icon in the system tray, next to the clock. If it is not there, open AX Receiver from the Start menu.

Put the phone and the PC on the same Wi-Fi network. Two networks from the same router (for example a 2.4 GHz and a 5 GHz name) are usually fine; a guest network is not.

Give it a few seconds. The app keeps searching, and a PC that has just started can take a moment to announce itself.

Still nothing? Connect by address instead: on the PC, the receiver shows its IP address and a QR code. In the app, tap Scan QR code or Enter IP under "Not listed?".

"… didn't answer"

The phone reached for the PC and nothing replied. Most often the AX Receiver is not running: open it on the PC and try again.

If it is running, the PC may be asleep, or on a different network from the phone.

Windows is blocking the connection

The first time the receiver starts, Windows asks whether to allow it on your network. Choose Allow. If the prompt was dismissed, connections can be dropped silently.

The receiver is allowed on private networks. If Windows treats your home Wi-Fi as a public network, it will block the phone: open Settings → Network & internet → Wi-Fi → your network, and set the network profile to Private.

"Can't reach … from this phone"

The phone has no route to the PC. Check both are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Guest networks, and some office or hotel networks, keep devices apart on purpose ("client isolation"). Use your main network instead.

A VPN on the phone or the PC can send traffic away from your local network. Pause it and try again.

"… is on the network, but the AX receiver isn't running"

The PC answered, but nothing is listening for the app. Open AX Receiver on the PC. If it closes itself straight away, reinstall it from the download page.

"… has a new identity since you last paired"

The receiver was reinstalled or reset, so it no longer matches the PC your phone remembers. Connect again: the app pairs it afresh, and you confirm the same code on both screens.

"… is running a version of the AX receiver this app can't talk to"

Update both: the app from Google Play, and the AX Receiver from the download page. The two need to be from the same generation to understand each other.

There is no Wi-Fi we can both join

Share a network instead of finding one. Turn on the phone's hotspot and connect the PC to it, or connect the two with a USB cable and switch on USB tethering on the phone — the cable is the fastest and steadiest of the three.

A phone on mobile data cannot reach a PC on a different network at all: the app talks straight to the receiver, with nothing in between.

The pointer moves too fast or too slow

Pointer speed is the PC's setting, not the phone's: the phone sends how far your finger moved, and Windows applies its own speed and acceleration. Change it in Windows under Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Mouse.

The connection keeps dropping

Stop the PC from sleeping while you use it, and keep the phone within good Wi-Fi range.

Battery savers can pause the app in the background. Keep the app open while you control the PC.
